Frequently Asked Questions

That’s more common than you think. Sometimes therapy didn’t work because it wasn’t the right approach, the right timing, or the right connection. I focus on creating a space that’s warm, flexible, and tailored to you - not one-size-fits-all. If we work together, we’ll check in regularly to make sure the work is feeling aligned and supportive. You deserve to feel safe, seen, and empowered in this process.
-
Not at all. Therapy isn’t only for crisis or trauma. It’s for anyone who wants to understand themselves better, cope with life’s ups and downs, or simply feel lighter and more grounded. Wanting support is human - and brave.
-
You’re not alone in that. Some sessions start with silence or uncertainty - and that’s okay. You don’t need to perform or prepare. Therapy is a space where you get to show up exactly as you are. We’ll follow what feels present, even if that means slowing down, noticing what’s in your body, or simply taking a few deep breaths together. There’s no “wrong way” to do this.
-
Therapy can bring up hard feelings - that’s part of the growth. But discomfort doesn’t mean danger. We move at a pace that feels safe for you, and you’ll have support every step of the way. Often, leaning into discomfort gently is where real shifts happen.
-
You can absolutely vent, cry, or rant when you need to - and sometimes that alone is healing. But our work will also go deeper. Together we’ll explore your patterns, your nervous system, your inner parts, and the root stories beneath what you’re feeling. This is about building insight, resilience, and real change, not just coping.

The duration of therapy varies for each individual. Some clients find a few sessions helpful, while others engage in longer-term work. We'll regularly assess your progress and adjust as needed.
-
My approach is holistic and can incorporate spiritual elements if that resonates with you. Whether you're interested in exploring personal meaning, intuition, or simply seeking a grounded space, we'll tailor the sessions to your preferences.

Seeking wellness is a personal process that can be multi-faceted. Before seeking professional guidance, people often consider a variety of ways to achieve their goals. What counselling and psychotherapy (or just therapy) offer is self-reflection and exploration in a safe and stable environment. At hopeful horizons, you will be met with educational, clinical and research experience that could complement your healing journey.

Most health insurance/extended medical benefit plans partially or fully cover health-care or paramedical practitioners. If you are unsure what your coverage entails, please contact your workplace or your insurer to clarify what kind of coverage you have. In many cases, policies will also cover your children if they are under the age of 25. Please note that we do not do direct billing, however we will provide you with a receipt that you can submit to your insurer for full or partial reimbursement.

I understand that it is often necessary to change or cancel a therapy session due to life circumstances. If you are unable to attend your scheduled session, we ask that you please let us know as soon as you're able to. This will allow me to provide space for other clients who are in need. While I understand that last-minute changes or cancellations are sometimes unavoidable, I do require a 48-hour notice period. Changes or cancellations made within the 48 hour window are subject to full session fees to ensure fairness. Changes or cancellations made 48 hours or earlier will not be subject to any fees. Exceptional circumstances will always be taken into consideration.
